Wachiska Audubon's Birdathon
has been the main fundraising effort of our local Audubon
chapter for many years. Each spring we count on donations
to fund the many conservation and education activities that
Wachiska Audubon has been doing for over 35 years. This year
is no different.
Beginning this summer, Wachiska
Audubon, like many other local Audubon chapters, will begin
relying more heavily on local memberships as a source of
operating funds.
Recently new challenges
have been arising in the state legislature, but did you know
that Wachiska now has a lobbyist working for us to make sure
we are prepared to meet those challenges? Did you know that
Wachiska sends e-mail Action Alert reminders to notify people
when a letter to their state senator or congressman is needed?
The Action Alert list includes over 1,000 names. Did you
know that Wachiska Audubon protects 26 native prairies in
16 different counties in Southeastern Nebraska?
It's your contribution to
Birdathon 2010 that will allow us to keep doing these and
other projects in the coming year.
As you consider donating
to Wachiska Audubon Society, consider this, taken from a
recent President's Column in the Wachiska newsletter The
Babbling Brook:
"Within our mission
to provide communication, promote prairie conservation, and
advocate for sound environmental legislation in Nebraska,
our chapter spends $31 per person every year. This does not
include our education programs or maintaining our office."
